We are going to face some crazy choices in the next few weeks.

In the Bay Area we have an immense homeless population. Everyone is aware... right?

Well... one of the weird side effects of not having people on the streets is that in other countries monkeys are starving. Because people hand out food to them all the time, there are roving gangs of hostile monkeys. Now I'm not calling homeless people monkeys!!! Settle your asses down and stay with me for a moment. I'm only providing an example of what may come.

Apparently in tourist areas where people feed monkeys - they can't survive on their own. You get where I'm going with this? Less foot traffic means not as much money being handed to the homeless.

It's not only the virus that's a concern but actual starvation. I don't even know how this is all going to play out. But it's intense for sure.

Also.... what happens when they shut down the restaurants? The stores are stripped bare. How are people going to eat?

  1. We went out early this afternoon (steaks for the freezer) and I saw a lot more people begging at all the corners by the shopping area. 3 or 4 at some corners, it was noticeably different.
Hadn't though about people not doing what they usually do and the less traffic because of that.

Once upon a time, there was a world traveler of a deeply Christian faith who was adrift at sea in the Mediterranean ...

Soon after the engine of his boat sputtered to a halt, the Italian navy showed up to offer assistance.

"That's kind of you, but God will provide."

And so the Italian navy left him adrift.

A few hours later, a small pleasure craft appeared, and its owner, a Catholic priest, offered to give him some help with the engine.

"I've done what I can with it, but it's in God's hands now, and God will provide."

So the priest sailed away, leaving the devout Christian at sea.

Over the next few days, all sorts of vessels appeared to lend assistance, including a French frigate, an American aircraft carrier, and a Russian spy trawler.

In each case, the man said, "God would provide", and he sent them all away.

Eventually the man died of starvation and dehydration, and appeared at the Gates of Heaven.

Saint Peter said, "I don't understand, what in the Actual Hell are you doing here?"

The man said he kept waiting for God to provide.

"I sent you the Italian navy, a Catholic priest, the French navy, the American navy, and even an infernal Russian spy boat ... what in the Actual Hell does it take to get through to you?"

And so Saint Peter sent him to Actual Hell where he could reflect on his sins, especially the sin of being so vain that he needed Actual God to show up to save him from himself.

BTW, people are always surprised that Buddhists know Christian jokes ... but who do you think writes your jokes for you, Christians?

"God will provide" ... AHAHAHAHAHA. :-)

  3. I read there's Panic in Needle Park among the homeless ... importation of drug precursors from China has stopped, hence extreme shortages of drugs...

  4. Oh... for real? I guess my brain hadn't gone in that direction yet. There are so many junkies in San Fransisco. I don't know how letting them rot on the street is anything near compassion.

Love your nym. No one has come in under Unknown yet. Welcome!

  5. I don't know. I need Asians. Half of the things I love to eat are from Asian cultures. Food brings us all together. I think they would be just as happy to see China fall. But I do believe in free speech.
