I guess I have become latently viral.

I've always tried to figure out what the demo is for youtube comments. Mostly I think they are trolls looking for something to do. So, I never really pay attention to comments at all. Except for the video below because I just don't understand it. The video is six years old. Never got a comment until a year ago, and within the last two days I've gotten a dozen or more comments all of a sudden. They keep streaming in and I keep getting email messages about them.

Now I wonder if the people who comment are just lazy and low information people. Because who comments on a video that is 6 years old? I don't have the heart to tell them they are expending all this energy for no reason.

All I know is that the internets would be infinitely better if people just quit spreading OLD information.

    ... hides my leeches ...

Wait, what? No no, I'm not offering medical advice here, no medical advice to be found here, you lot just go run along and mind your business ...

(of course, I fully expect to see people ranting here about the marvelous healing power of leeches here in a few years) :-)

  2. It just means that it takes these people 6 years to catch up with you. Are they upset about the video?

  3. They only seem to be upset about how stupid California is. To that I say welcome to the club. But there are plenty of current things to be outraged at. They don't have to dredge up old stuff to have an issue to rail about.

I think it bothers me because I'd bet a lot of these people were okay with Obamacare and now all of a sudden people are fiscal conservatives. Eff them. For six years they didn't care.

Oh, wait, let me do a reasonably accurate parody of these people for you ...

(besides, haven't we done this before?) :-)

  5. Yeah... but what motivation would they have to pay people to comment on videos like mine?

There are several things you could file it under:

    * "Influencing online communities"
    * Turning comment sections into meme reflectors
    * Political astroturfing of mostly uncontested space

So don't get the idea that your old video is actually becoming viral.

It's just a piece of mostly uncontested Internet space, it's a place where some paid shills can place their meme reflectors, and so they think that if things get active there enough, it might reflect back into search engines.

Congratulations! You've just been search engine optimized for purposes other than your own!

Q-Ball can share more about this the next time he shows up.

BTW, Q-Ball, here's why I call you Q-Ball: it's meant to be a play on what the average covert operative looks like, which is what I expect some of the "Q-Anon" people are.

Take a stressed-out white guy with a steep mortgage and a family that can't stop buying crap on credit cards who happens to have a MIL-SPEC past, but instead of sticking him in TACTI-COOL(tm) Gear and sending him to the next hot mess in Mocha Cashew or wherever the hell it is, stick him in some air-conditioned office where he's going to grow old looking at strategic analysis data deluges and satellite photo time-lapse montages.

As the operative grows increasingly more bald as a result of pushing up mushrooms in his Rear Echelon Mushroom Farm, his head begins to resemble a Cue Ball. Some of these guys don't want to wait and go Full Kojak with a razor at the first sign of long-term hair loss.

Say I'm not right about this most of the time. :-)

  7. Oh - that's about as viral as you can get for a six year old video. I'm guessing someone just linked it because the comments have slowed to a trickle now.

I'm not sure how to respond about the qball stuff. It just sounds like guys being shitty with each other. But I figure you guys will figure it out.

You still don't get it about Texans ...

Even George W Bush the Younger used to do this sort of thing, but the names he had for people were even worse.

The thing is that if you wind up getting a name like this, generally you're on the "liked" side more than on the "disliked" side. :-)

  9. Na. I get it. But us women aren't really geared the same way as men. It took me a lot of years to learn that the times when men were poking me that meant they were treating me like one of the guys. That's what guys do when they are around each other. Women on the other hand are more like - why the eff are you poking me? So I get it... I'm just trying to keep peace in my comments. Obvi people can say anything they want, but there is a fine line between poking and hostility sometimes. And sometimes in txt you aren't sure which way things are going to lean.
