I am a little in love with boxes that light up.

And I don't care if it's stupid.

    You think that's fun?

THE FUTURE IS EVEN MOAR FUN :-)

Wait until the power requirements for this stuff become so low that the typical amount of free-floating RF is enough to provide backlighting for static data, and so the form factor of this stuff could be a few microns thick.

    That's when "e-paper" really becomes a thing.

Now imagine an environment where "tuned RF leakage" becomes something more than just an inventive way over a half century ago for Russian spy masters to exfiltrate data produced by typewriters from the American embassy in Moscow.

RFID tech might get a boost from an agreed-upon standard frequency for lighting up very thin OLED devices ...

If you can have a primitive computer less than the size of a grain of sand, what's to stop doing "e-paper" if you can solve the power problems another way?

I know you're a sucker for these boxes, but I know what else you'd be a sucker for ...

OLED wrapping paper for Christmas that has capacitive sensor capabilities so it lights up when you touch it.

OH GO ON YOU KNOW YOU WANT THAT NOW :-)

Oh, wait, I'm confusing "The Thing" for "The Antenna" ...

"The Thing" only exfiltrated conversations from Ambassador Not-So-Bright's meeting room. :-)

OMG. You are speaking my language. You know I love that.

Already there. I've seen demos. I can't wait until this gets more traction because this stuff is so low power and can be super bright. Remarkably bright.

As for the epaper thing. Epaper has had a hard time gaining traction. It was really popular about 10 years ago. I think lcd screens became cheap so quickly that it was rough for them. And it's still greyscale. But last time Mr S. and I were in Best Buy he noticed their price tags were using epaper. About effing time! Those are the applications it's best suited for because apparently people still like color over greyscale.
