Birds are sort of tards.

It seems like a couple of times a year I get a bird strike on one of the big windows on the back side of my house. This morning I heard that familiar "ting" that  happens when a bird hits glass.

Most of the time they shrug off flying into a glass wall.. I've definitely seen the outline of a bird strike on the windows far more times than seeing the dead bird right below the window. Which actually has been never. I wonder if the glass cushions them from death. Anyway, from time to time I do find a bird that's hit the window so hard I'm sure he's seeing stars. Or whatever birds see when they've been clocked.

This always elicits some stress in the Snarkolepsy household. I don't want them to sufferdie. The small birds would be easy to dispatch them, but this dove was starting to cross the line. Maybe I'd have to take it to Lindsey Wildlife in the East Bay because he was bigger. If a crow is stupid enough to hit the window he's definitely going to Linsey. Crows are crazy smart, There is probably some crow mafia or something. And they hang in gangs. Crows are getting yuge. Almost the size of dogs in some places. I recently saw a crow at a McDonalds on the way to Vegas and it was eating a full sized McDonald hash brown.

Anyway. Mr S. usually rolls his eyes. because whatever happens in natures way. I kind of go out from time to time to nudge them along. If a human can't stress them out enough to fly away - maybe I'm going to have to put it out of it's misery. I mean - Mr S. is going to have to put them out of their misery. Sometimes this whole process can go on for a few hours. Thankfully they have all eventually get their act together and we haven't had to kill any of them. Nature figures it out. Doves do have cute pink blush in their cheeks feathers though.

Bird fail.

I've been waiting to get this shot for probably two months. You have to let your windows get dirty enough that you can capture the image. And the sun has to be shining on it just right.

What I loved about this particular bird strike is - he never saw the window coming. You can see the outline of his eyes for effs sakes. That is comedy.

The snarkolepsy house is gaining notoriety for ridiculous bird strikes. Yes. It is. The operative word is gaining. Read about the last time I had a bird fail here.

Today's scooter schadenfreude.

Vigilantes Are Taking Scooters Off the Streets of San Diego and Bird and Lime Are Pissed.

"A company in San Diego co-founded by a former Marine has been scooping up the abandoned scooters that litter city streets owned by the startups Bird and Lime for months, giving some of them back to Bird in November in exchange for more than $40,000. Bird and Lime have since called the company’s activities “ransom,” and a legal battle has begun."

Yep. These companies are just vaporizing money.

Who the hell is giving these people money?!

"Bird, the electric scooter company that first launched in Los Angeles, is reportedly raising $150 million in new financing led by Sequoia Capital, according to Bloomberg. The round would value the company at $1 billion. Bird declined to comment for this story." Source.

When I heard they had gotten round B funding I just couldn't believe it. How is it they don't know what is happening to their product in San Fransisco? I don't understand at all how anyone thinks this company can pull a profit. When you've lost San Fransisco....your company is messed up. SF is openly hostile about these things.

"For weeks, I'd been seeing trashed electric scooters on the streets of San Francisco. So I asked a group of friends if any of them had seen people vandalizing the dockless vehicles since they were scattered across the city a couple of months ago.

The answer was an emphatic "yes."

One friend saw a guy walking down the street kicking over every scooter he came across. Another saw a rider pull up to a curb as the handlebars and headset became fully detached. My friend figures someone had messed with the screws or cabling so the scooter would come apart on purpose.

A scroll through Reddit, Instagram and Twitter showed me photos of scooters -- owned by Bird, Lime and Spin -- smeared in feces, hanging from trees, hefted into trashcans and tossed into the San Francisco Bay." Source.

Also note - they have gig workers now running around rescuing stranded scooters.

You guys are playing with fire.

There is no herd immunity to ANY flu. Not the regular flu. Not the China flu. NOT BIRD FLU. Stop being stupid. Getting sick only hurts you. Failing to control these problems only hurts you and makes your food more expensive.

I haven't really talked about bird flu, because I'm down for this. I did my best to tell people what was really going on with the China flu, and I got piled on and told I was a fear monger. So honestly, I'm at the point where I think a lot of inconsiderate people are going to get a really terrible reality check. I mean, last night I read on twitter that "virus theory was bullshit because humans are 90% bugs". And I just cant believe people are this stupid. It was too much to expect people learn hundreds of years of virus theory in four years. I personally give up.

You were not made to roll around in viruses like you are filling out your bingo card. Getting sick DOES NOT BUILD YOUR IMMUNITY. I told my childhood friend this who has bone cancer, but she said she didn't want to live in fear. So a big fuck you to all the people who convinced her of this.

The funny thing about the "Do not comply" group is that - most of them have already complied, are just projecting their guilty bullshit on those who haven't like me.  I've got the receipts. Most have gotten the shot. Most have been infected. And to all those people who think they are "true bloods", - if you have gotten COVID, you are not a true blood. Which is the creepiest fucking phrase ever. They are finding out now the spike protein stays in your body or years. ( so far). The below quite is from Nov 2021. Link above.

When I was telling people that the vaccinated were getting reinfect I was called a liar. But here is the old CDC director saying that they purposefully didn't count the reinfected because it made the vaxine look ineffective. Yet for two years I was whatabouted to the point where I gave up and stopped blogging basically.

And lastly I want to immortalize this moment in history. Because Trump fully owns this movement. I ca'nt tell if he knows or is just batshit stupid. But we gonna find out because all the dumbass Republicans are going to do a run on raw milk. Mark my words. People have a really insane confidence about the immune systems. They don't even know how that shit works.

Oh children - this is going to be funny.

First let me start out by saying - there is no one on earth who wants the alternative energy folks to be right. No one! Not because of some stupid love for mother earth. What egos. Mother Earth does what she wants, and she'll kick your ass if she feels like it.

I want them to be right, because with mass production - prices come down. The Snarkolepsy household runs right out and gets solar panels for the house so we can run a 25 foot television. Well, if I had the money and I wanted to. Then I can tell Pacific Gas and Electric to bite me. See! Pretty selfish and greedy. But green. If you want to call it that.

I have this silly notion that the modern world will take more electricity. Not less. Just like Japan.

Having said that - the alternative energy people push my buttons like no one else. After all, if you can't make solar and wind work in California. Where the hell can you get it to work? Well, plus there is a wind farm not too far from me.

It's pretty hard getting any kind of real data from that place. You'd think it was area 51 or something. I don't think any of the locals know where the power goes, or how much power it actually produces. I've heard people say that none of the power from the wind farms goes to my town at all. I only hear about the enviro's bitching about the birds getting killed.

So, when the new administration started touring windmill manufacturing plants, I decided to poke around again. Hoping to plug in the magic key words to find out once and for all how much good those spinny turbines were doing.

Oh wait. Lets talk about those birds again.

In 2004 people started getting unhappy about the birds getting killed from the turbines. So the greenies put pressure on the county to get the companies who own the windmills to replace old turbines that were alleged to kill the birds. Funny thing is, if they replace the turbines - the companies get less revenue. I know that motivates me to do stuff.
Full story here.

"Wind-power electricity prices have dropped sharply, from 80 cents a kilowatt hour in 1980, to 10 cents in 1991, to between 3 cents and 9 cents a kilowatt hour today, excluding subsidies, meaning potentially lower revenues for operators. "

Additionally, the state doesn't just let you do the right thing and swap out the old turbines in theory making the greenies happy. They have to undertake an environmental impact report. Which is known to take years. So why bother. Just let the birds die for shits sakes. What do you want? Green energy or birds? You can't have both. But, it gets oh so much better.

A few companies have been swapping out their turbines. Yet the bird deaths have continued. Even said to increase. But wait! The new turbines were suppose to be taller, making it so birds couldn't fly into them.

I'm not a bird-ol-ogist, but I'm guessing birds still fly at 200-250 feet in the air. Maybe their little carcases disintegrate before they fall to the ground huh? No.. no such luck.

So the Audubon Society now wants half of the turbines idled during bird migration times. Or a complete 4 month winter shutdown. I can't tell which. Full story here.

Four months! What will we do till then?

Well, we can get our power from natural gas peaker plants. No one who has lived through rolling blackouts knows anything about that.

Namely that peaker plants are there for "peak" times. Basically power emergencies. And thus electricity costs more. Or! We can put up a commiserate amount of solar panels to compensate. Which completes the cycle People.

Requiring an environmental impact report! Which Greg Miller of the Bureau of Land Management admits will be close to two years for those goofy solar panels in the desert. Story here.

Oh yeah. Green jobs. So cute!

Conning you for clicks.

Your Living Standards Have Declined Dramatically.

"Everyone knows about the egg problem, which is being chalked up to a bird flu, just as Putin was responsible for the gas price and greedy meat processors caused beef prices to soar. Sorry but this is ridiculous. The price of eggs is up dramatically because all the costs associated with making them available to consumers are up." (emphasis mine)

Zerohedge almost admits it. Almost. But he'd rather froth you up, because apparently all you have to mention is DAVOS and people lose their minds.

What could he possibly mean "all the costs associated with making them" are up? He couldn't mean labor shortages could he? And bird flu is a HUGE thing. He knows this. He reads the same feeds I do. But that doesn't get him clicks and outrage. Bird flu is another thing no one seems to care about. Literally every day I read an article about it.

"It’s the same with the Fed. It does not matter that the dollar can buy more foreign currencies than ever. That has nothing to do with anything. What matters is not how much foreign currency it can buy but how many goods and services it can buy. The reason it buys far less traces to the outrageous monetary expansions of 2020 and 2021. That’s the whole reason. At one point, monetary expansion was running 26 percent per year!"

Again. Sooooooo close.

Look, would I vote for Trump again? Probably. Having said that - HE PRINTED MORE MONEY THAN ALL OF THEM! And Repulicans used to care about that.

This is the cutest fib:

"They robbed you to fund their outrageous lockdown experiment and put as many businesses and people on the payroll as possible. They might as well have dropped money from helicopters. Now we are paying the price for this monetary malfeasance.".

They did drop money from helicopters. He knows this. FORGIVEN PPP LOANS ARE HELICOPTER MONEY.

I even made a post titled - What comes after Helicopter money. And you are absolutely going to get to find out.

Everybody wanted to save the world until they got a chance to.

Then they said - JK. Too hard.

Mass death of seals raises fears bird flu is jumping between mammals, threatening new pandemic.

"Avian flu has been found in seals that died a ‘mass mortality event’ in the Caspian Sea. Now scientists are investigating whether it is the first transmission of the virus between mammals in the wild"

I literally read articles every day about the bird flu. And it's getting kind crazy. It's jumping into a LOT of different species. And bird flu has a more "unfavorable" death rate.

And if anyone were wondering..... yes. Monkeypox IS still out there. New Zealand seems to be having a weird pop.

For the love of Christmas!

"Multi-bird roasts, where different types of bird are stuffed inside a larger one, have become the thing to carve this year - and the more birds involved the better. One of the top-sellers is the Waitrose four-bird roast: guinea fowl, duck and turkey breast stuffed inside a goose. "

I don't know if this has a catchy name like turducken.... so, I'm creating my own.

Tuk-duck-goose. Enjoy!

You know I'm gonna take pictures!

I was just sitting down with my coffee this morning when I hear a giant bang against the glass slider. We've had birds fly into the glass before. I even have a picture of one of my windows with the perfect silhouette of a bird. So I didn't think much about it when I went to investigate. Normally they just get up and fly away. But, this bird had been flying like it didn't realise a building existed at all.

So.. I look down - and he is laying there. I think "ah man.. I've only had two sips of coffee - I don't want to deal with this yet"! Because of his shattered state I'm sure he has broken his neck. But he is still breathing and blinking. I'm sure he will expire at any moment. So I start asking Mr S. if he is going to get rid of his body. Cause that's men's work. Of course.

After about 5 minutes it becomes clear that he is just going to malinger on. Forcing me to have to consider putting it out of its misery, or let it die a slow painful death.

In general I'm not a big fan of messing with nature. I believe in evolution, and that if you keep coddling animals - what happens when humans can't take care of them anymore? That's right! The species collapses.

Since he isn't dead yet... I might as well move him out of the sun. Right? I go back to check on him every 15 minutes or so. And the little bastard hasn't died yet. This goes on for about a half an hour. So I decide to find a stick and roll him over. He is kind of able to keep rested on his legs. While he isn't moving his neck, it doesn't look broken to me. Or else he would have just fallen right over. Right?

I go back out every 15 minutes to check on him. The sun is starting to shine on him again. So I just pick him up and move him to the shade. Screw the stick.

The next time I check on him, he's finally moving his head a little. And the next time he's up on his feet and looking kind of okay. Okay.. so maybe he isn't going to die yet. But it looks like his wing is broken. So I've saved him from baking in the sun, but he's just going to starve to death. He runs to a safe place in the yard, and I debate my evolution stance. What am I gonna do? Take this bird to the vet. Ridiculous. My actual pets are already robbing me blind with vet bills. Besides.. smart birds would learn not to fly into glass. But that's just me.

An hour later I go to check on him and he is gone. Either he got his act together - something ate him, or he found another place to die. Even though I looked for his body everywhere. I mean, he was well enough to run from me the last time I saw him.

It's a good thing I didn't club him to put him out of his misery. I choose to think he snapped out of it and flew to safety.

I seriously have issues.

In an effort to take advantage of one of the last great legal tax loopholes - Mr S. went and had laser surgery done on his eyes today. You know, before the administration found out, and started trying to run health care.

I love those pesky accounts you stick money into to pay for medical procedures for the year. Of course, you put money into them before the government it's its grubby hands on it. I don't even want to call it by it's name. That is how much I covet them.

I totally wish I had something funny to tell you about the surgery. But, I don't.

If you can even call it that. I barely had the laptop out and onto a network, before he was done. Seriously. It must have been 10 minutes. On one hand I think - hey, if you just marketed this stuff so people knew it only takes freakin 10 minutes - you'd get more people in. On the other hand, your brain says "a couple grand for 10 minutes. Really?

What the hell! I can see."

So, why am I giving you a picture of this freaky bird? Well, this morning it seemed funny. He's been hanging out at my house lately. I don't know what it is about this place that screws up eyes. You may not remember two of my bunnies have had eye issues since I've lived in this house. Now this freaky bird. The other reason is - a few of my readers of odd fascinations with birds.

This is probably the asshole that gouged out his eye.

You may continue with your lives now. That is all.

I have never seen a company make people mad so quickly.

Nashville to Bird: Remove all scooters from city rights-of-way by end of Wednesday or face impounding.

It took them exactly one month to piss off Nashville.

I think Bird is a perfect example of how Silicon Valley is just a shitshow right now. The idea is not to "grow" a market - but to flood a market - damn the consequences - and vaporize money. I mean, this is a good concept. A money losing concept because these companies just don't give a shit. They are valued at a billion dollars now. And I just can't figure this crap out. People are throwing these things in the trash in San Fransisco. This company seems completely detached from economic reality.

I don't think I've ever seen so many companies that don't make money in Silicon Valley as there are right now. Speculation companies used to be a small part of the market. Now they seem to be a very large part of the market. It's almost .com bubblish.

If you are bored - take a stroll through the Bird graveyard on Insta.

It's basically video after video of people destroying those Bird Scooters by throwing them off of tall buildings. Setting them on fire. Or just drowning them in bodies of water.

I'm totes sure those investors are getting their money back. Said in the most sarcastic way. I even saw them getting destroyed in PARIS! It's a new sport I guess.

Those Bird scooters are endlessly entertaining.

Allegedly the homeless have learned how to hack these things and now use them help to cart their stuff around. Also, (allegedly) they can fence the batteries about about 50 bucks.

There have been endless Bird Graveyard videos.  And now it turns out....... you can trick the machine into giving you free rides! They are sort of an interesting human experiment. But for sure - I don't understand how this company is making money when they have so much vandalism.

I find more annoying people.

So this weekend we went out to the mega Scottish Games. This is the one where people fly in from everywhere. At the end, they get all the bagpipers together to play amazing grace. There must be several hundred of them. There is nothing like it.

I also wanted to make another attempt at the twinkie thing. I think it will be my last one. I'm not sure why I got such a bug up my ass about them. Maybe it's because now I can't find them. At any rate - I hope I'm over it.

The other thing that happened is.... I found a whole new group of people to want to beat the ever loving crap out of. This is how it happened.

I'd just gotten done cussing out the British for their boiled, tasteless concoctions. In this case - bangers. I'd never had one. Now, I hate British food. That's right. All of it. I can't get behind a country that boils everything.

Anyway.. we were on our way out the gate, and we walk through this area where a bunch of people were gathering. They were setting up a bird of prey show. We figure.. hell - why not hang out and see it. Maybe I can get some interesting shots.

I try to make my way to the front. Which, I'm somewhat successful at. Once I get there I'm stuck behind this tall guy with a straw hat. Now.. let me tell you. It pisses me to no end that people who have a foot on me feel the need to be in the front row. But,listen tall guy.. you are such a complete asshole for being tall in the front row with a big straw hat.

At this point they start displaying the birds in the middle of the crowd. Mr S. has staked up a position on the periphery. Because he's tall. And nice.

This is all I can see.

Mr S. motions me to the back where he is. He's staked out a spot that has something for me to stand on. Because he loves me.

Even standing on something - while being on my tippy toes, I find it hard not to get shots of f-ing hats. At this point - I'm pissed off enough I just want to start doing the windmill.

I did manage to get these two shots. But it was a considerable amount of work.

As we are leaving I'm bitching up a storm about the people in straw hats. This is when I notice they are everywhere. Those people didn't bother me one bit until the bird of prey area. Then they really f-ing bothered me. Look - they were everywhere. Laying in wait to piss me off.

Dirty Bird!

Yes. The turkeys are still entertaining me. It's just odd for a reasonably sized city to have flocks of turkeys. Anyway.

I stopped to get a shot of them at this house because they are an eccentric couple who own a mini pig and have odd decorations out all the time.

What happened though - the bird went to shake like a dog, and this huge dust cloud fell out. It was the weirdest thing. I've never seen that happen before. Is that normal?

Keep your pets safe folks.

I wasn't going to post this, but it's not fair that some really uneducated people try to stop others from informing the public. And there must be some people who read my blog that aren't completely out of touch of reality.

We are about one minute away from FOUR concurrent pandemics. Imma let you guess which ones, because I am not going to tell you. Imma let you find out on your own. Good luck people!

I'm going to have to get all "caddyshack".

Last summer when I had the roof replaced on the house I live in - I tried to get my roofer to replace this eave vent. It had this hole when we moved into the house.

Since we'd lived here for a year already and no animals had been getting in, the hole was just unsightly. Anyway.. every house in my town apparently was built with non standard parts, and we couldn't find a vent screen that fit. So, that project went on the back burner. You know.. because I'm sitting around eating bon bons and crap.

Fast forward to about a month ago. About dawn, I'd gotten woken up to some scratching noises. At first Mr S. thought I might have finally fallen off the ledge. After a few mornings he finally heard the scratching too. For days we tried to diagnose the scratching as birds or rats. Then the problem went away. Whew - the hole went back on the back burner.

Till this morning. This time - louder. Way louder. It even woke up Mr S.

Which is a big deal. He can sleep through anything. We finally figure out it is a bird. Who is absconding with the new insulation I had put into the roof. It's one thing to wake me up.. but insulation is freaking expensive! I know he's not stealing much. But, let the little fucker get a job.

Anyway today - we set out to try and patch the hole. Of course - our 18 foot ladder doesn't work. The hole is right above a window. The ladder reaches 3/4's of the way to the hole, and not wanting to break the window. We didn't feel comfortable resting the ladder on it.

Our next solution was to put some wire on a pole and just poke it into the offending area. Which pretty much sucks as a solution.

But now I have to either rent a taller ladder. Or something. All I know, is I didn't want to do that today. I hope my wire patch works. I'm pretty skeptical. If there is anything I know from spending so much time with animals that only have two brain cells. It is they can outsmart a PHD. Which I'm not. But, I'm telling you they can. They have all day to prove to you what a dumb ass you are.

I swear there is some conspiracy to make sure I never get any rest. That whole thing actually took several hours to come up with. Why is everything a freaking puzzle at my place?

It brings a new meaning to "locally sourced".

We've had turkey's on the outskirts of town for a while. They have mostly been contained on the grounds of the wineries.

Then, about a year ago I started seeing them dead in the roads. Self, I thought - it's only a matter of time before they get into town. They are spreading.

They must have figured out there is dog and cat food to be found in town. Not to mention crazy bird ladies who feed them. (Not that all people who feed birds are crazy. Some however are, and will bring species in that are not helpful to the community.)

So, I guess we get to see how this turns out. Turkeys can get quite aggressive. I've seen videos of other places that had a heard of them, and they will chase you and try to wreck your cars. I only wish they were peacocks. Because that would be funnier.

When the damn breaks - it breaks.

Lastly... endemic doesn't mean what you think it does. Endemic is a word for third world countries because they are poor or lack the skills to eradicate something.

When these viruses get into the animal reservoirs they can cross back and forth. I was just reading an article last night about house cats and COVID which they do get and can spread at least to other cats. What if your cat is an outside cat? I guess it is in the realm of possibility that some random person can get infected from their cat, who was infected from an outside cat. Seems pretty funny and farcical. Right?

Okay. Then let's look at  the Avian Flu outbreak that literally no one is covering. It's been going on for months and is why eggs are so expensive. This is hitting backyard flocks and everything. No big whoop right? Buuuuuut... what if bald eagles are suddenly in the infection zone?

Bald Eagles Are Dying From Bird Flu.

We just had a pelican die off... and although I haven't heard the cause yet - it isn't fantasy that it could be avian flu.

COVID is already in the deer population. And many other animals. Apparently the pox also has animal reservoirs like prairie dogs.

So... how far do we let this get out of hand?
