The best proof (so far) the virus does live on things.

There have been many reports of this out of China and Obvi we don't believe anything they say. But Tonga - that is an interesting case.

They have been virus free because they live on an island. When the Tsunami hit there was a bunch of hand ringing about how they would get relief supplies to them. They decided on contactless delivery. Seriously.

Now, two people have popped up positive. IF and that is a big if, because people are giant fibbers, they have kept the bubble in tact - this would be compelling that the virus does live on things for some time.

I personally have been treating this virus like the flu. Which you can get from touching things. Every single time I get into my car I disinfect. And I've grown to be Howie Mandel level germaphobic. Normally that would only be a trade show thing. But people can't be trusted apparently.

  1. That's the same assumption we've been following, the past nearly-two years... despite the official proclamation, last spring or thereabouts: "Stop disinfecting surfaces! We've known for almost a year that surface transmission wasn't a thing, but didn't feel like telling you until now."
Been going through lots of isopropyl alcohol and alcohol-soaked towelettes. Incoming paper (generally) gets heated up. With a very few exceptions, incoming stuff that can't be disinfected gets quarantined.
I keep wanting to see details on how long the virus persists (in viable form) on various kinds of surfaces as a function of temperature and humidity, but that's been notably lacking.

  2. Same. It seems like there are a couple of simple studies that would put an end to a lot of bullshit. Like knowing how long it lives on surfaces. It's winter, so I'm assuming it lasts longer in winter.

The other thing is masks. Put one infected person in with 50 masked people and 50 non masked people. Let's see what group people REALLY want to be in. Again people are fibbers.

And lastly the spittle test. When I was at NASA early 2020 the light was hitting our speaker in just the right way that you could see all the droplets that come out of peoples mouths when they talk. I will never forget it. And when they released the 6 foot rule I knew why. But all of these things seem easy to replicate but there is no desire. It's one of the things that makes me feel the US was somehow involved. They don't seen to want to get to the bottom of anything and prefer us fighting amongst ourselves.
