    How punky ... how cyber-punky. :-)

    "Where did the robbers go?"

"Sector Zero-Zero-Three, Droidtown, a Lo-Tek fabber shithole for people and mechs who make unobtainable replacement parts for the Luddite Hardware Army."

"So we can assume the robbers were mechs?"

"Wouldn't make any other sense to hide in Zero-Zero-Three unless they're trying to get new bodies as well as illegal sensenet implants so they can pretend they were always someone else."

    "It's kind of bleak ... why's it in black-and-white?"

"Zero-Zero-Three made an aesthetic choice back in the 2020s: you're either with the Scheduled Maintenance types and the Upgrader Scum, or you're part of the Luddite Hardware Army, and there's only black, white, and shades of grey in between. They're hiding some of the best tech in any of the old Baynet zones, but you couldn't tell just by looking at it. That black-and-white effect is maintained by completely insane numbers of nano-diffuser bots that absorb uneven visible spectra."

"Sounds it's like Hopper's 'Nighthawks' in there but without even that much color -- this should be fun. How do they feel about regular humans?"

"They love them, they're the first Luddite Hardware Army, most of them won't even get upgrades to the shitty 'natural parts' they were born with, but what they don't love are regular humans with vanity upgrades. They tend to shoot those types on sight."

"I'm going in, but if I come out sporting a second arm instead of a gun pod, you'll know that some shit went down."

Some people see other stories in other people's pictures. :-)

  2. Luddite hardware army. I sort of like that.

    The picture changed!

Now instead of an industrial work space, it's showing The Road To Hell.

  4. Ha ha ha. Thanks for letting me know. Sometimes I've not very bright in my naming conventions. Fixed it.

Once upon a time during a secondary inspection ...

"What exactly IS 'badgers-humping-a-weasel.jpg' in this folder?"

    "Pull it up."

    "It sounds like something nasty."

    "Pull it up."

"... it's a picture of some stacked rocks. Why would you give a picture of some rocks a horrible name like that?"

"Oh, that's 100% for the people trying to hack the site, they get no useful information about what's in the site until they look at it."

    "And 'crows-on-crack.jpg' then?"

"That probably is crows on crack, actually, but it was funny as hell at the time ... so pull it up."

"This is how you get hackers stuck on your Web site, isn't it? They just click one outlandish file name after another in the hopes it's something really bad."

"If they're not trying to hack my site, they'll be trying to hack someone else's. You should see the cat pictures."

"Do they have names like this?"

"No, they're all named after porn stars."

"Hahaha ... yeah, cat pictures, funny joke. This is both warped and hilarious, but does it work?"

"You're still here looking at this shit one file name at a time, aren't you? And you do know there's a copy of Picasa on here so you could view the whole thing as a photo gallery?"

    ... a few minutes later ...

"Wow, that's a really great picture of our country! Could I have a copy?"

"Sure, bring me a flash drive ... and I'll rename it for you so you know what it really is."

"That last part would be greatly appreciated."
