For the glitter Nazi's.
Yeah, I said it. You know there is a war on glitter. Right? Because we may only have what is functional and without joy apparently.
But seriously - I really like these low power LED's. They have been trying them in a bunch of different packaging. And cards seem like a good application.
Bread robot/vending machine.
Before the usual cacophony (oh yeah, I'm using big words today) of cries come in saying - they are taking all of our JOBS! I present you with this headline:
Robots Ruin Robot Hotel.
Just because robots ~can~ do something - doesn't mean they will do it as fast as a human. Robots were made to be slow but repetitive.
And besides - while I think this is a neat idea - it fails to understand the love of bread. We want to smell it, and squeeze it to see how old it is. And as a wife who's husband has been on a years long now bread quest- I don't think this thing is going to make it. Making bread is actually really hard. People intern in other countries for YEARS to get it right.
I'm still getting CES stuff out, but I just find it ridiculous that the market is rallying on Goldman Sacks! That is some stupid shit. On Feb 1 2018 their stock was 272 a share. It is now 179 a share.
I've been watching it for a few weeks because - No one of freaking out about a 1/3rd hair cut?! That is a relief rally if I've ever seen it.

Police hover bike.
I know this is somewhat vaporware for now, but I just loved that they spun it up. I almost thought they were going to take it an inch or two off the ground. But they didn't.
Drones are making slow but steady progress. And I'm guessing they got tired of people saying - you're gonna cut your legs off because they had a new concept under a tarp. I'm not sure how many people asked to see what was under the blanket because I haven't really seen anyone talking about it.
I was somewhat surprised at just how 3D printed they both looked. But I really am starting to believe this will be common in the future.

Lidar lidar everywhere. Hope you have some change to spare.
The only thing interesting about car lidar right now is where they are putting it. Right? And yes, there are other uses for lidar outside of the car industry.
I think eventually they will incorporate it into things like this headlight concept. But for right now, some of these cars are sporting like 30 grand in lidar. That is really going to jack up the prices of cars.

If you thought 3D printed rims were a fun idea - stop.
I saw these last year. So, I wanted to know how long before you could get your own design. And the answer was basically - never.
I guess rims have to go through a regulatory process. Probably NITSA. And every wheel design would need to be reviewed. At best you might be able to print small panels for your car to customize.
So.....3D printed rims are vaporware sadly.
I am absolutely crushing on underwater drones.
And have been for a few years. I want to go treasure hunting! If I had F-U money I would buy one and take it to the beach and steal all the beach glass at Davenport. But I think the surf would kill it right away.
The tard in me wants to take the shark to fresh water places like Tahoe. Or a couple of places near me because it would be funny. But Mr S. started talking to me about how people panic about stuff. I think he's trying to tame down the boy part of my brain. You dudes all get it. Right?

I have to give credit to Red Hydrogen.
I am still unpacking my brain from CES. That whole thing is just a LOT. But before I get to that, I wanted to talk about the Red Hydrogen phone Mr S. got over the holidays. It's the phone that gives you 3D images that pop out of your phone.
I pleaded with Mr S. not to buy one of these. Perhaps "pleaded" was a lille strong. I basically told him that I see a few devices a year that offer a "3D" experience, and it might not be as far along as he thinks it is. I also told him I thought it was going to be an orphan phone. Meaning no updates and tech help when things go wrong. But Mr S. has a bit of a kink for orphan phones. So I rolled my eyes and let him carry on with buying one.
He took it to CES, and I have to say it sort of changed my mind about the phone. I mean, the 3D tech isn't as completely there as people think it is. But it's actually novel enough to be pretty fun. And this is coming from someone who picks graphics apart. There is some artifacting. But enough of the photos are interesting enough to be enjoyable. I would say it's more holographic than 3D really. But still.
I mean, the phone seems to act like a phone, and the 3D is just an addition. It takes fine regular photos. And I haven't heard him bitching about how he hates anything yet. So... that's sort of a tech win. It's still early days as the factory air has barely worn off.
The funny thing about the phone though - is you can't see any of the pictures unless you own one of those phones. They can all exchange photos through the phones forum, but none of us can see them. And even that doesn't bother me.

Spoiled.
Being a bunny parent can be stressful. Things with their health can change quite rapidly, so now we take bunnies with us when we travel. It isn't like we haven't had sitters. They have been great. But even if you do everything right - rabbits are fakers. They hide illness until they have no option. And by then they can be very sick.
Literally they can look fine in the morning, and be close to death that night. They are huge assholes that way. So, it's a lot less worry for me just to do things this way. I literally bring a backpack of stuff to get bunnies out of a tailspin. Fluids, simethicone, etc. It's ridiculous. They are constantly trying to kill themselves.
Luckily Lacy has turned out to be the best travel bunny we've had. She doesn't go off her kibble at all. I think it helps that we picked her up from near L.A. Possibly the road imprinted on her early. We basically drove down to L.A. Picked her up, turned right round and drove back.
This is her CES hotel set-up. She has a large pet carrier with her litter boxing's it. Then we attach another fold out cage so she doesn't have to lay in her litter box the whole time.
We bring a painters drop cloth. Because pets will be pets. If she spills her water or hay gets everywhere it's way easier to clean up this way.

I have a couple of new things up on my twitter feed.
Attendance this year was ~way~ down. And I was here in 2008.
All my rage posts will come from today when I get to them. You are not even going to be able to take a crap without an Alexa enabled toilet. Just in case you were wondering what is getting my panties in a bunch.
Traveling tomorrow. Likely radio silence. The retrospective might not come till Monday. But hopefully I will have weekend stuff.

Just a wee bit windy.
I have never seen the wind trap leaves up on fences this way. Glad I'm not leaving today.
Remember Monday there will be no posts at all unless I send something to twitter. I'm going to be on the road.
The tumbleweeds are trying to take over.

Whats in the boooooox?
Everybody recycles their amazon boxes into pet toys? Right? We used to just make tunnels, but on the last two boxes Mr S. got creative and gave her side windows and Lacy just loves the crap out of that. Plus she has learned that if she is inside a box - she is invisible to humans and can't be put up.
Yeah, bunnies learn things. It just takes them a LOT longer.
On the topic of this blog sucking. It really should get better soon. This is pretty normal for this time of year. It's winter. Tech doesn't wake up until next week. Cars are minimal. I try to get a little extra rest. Blogging can be a grind sometimes. Yada yada yada.
