Augmented Reality creep.

There comes a time in every product cycle where they start calling things something they are not. And this is how we arrive at the Bose AR sunglasses. As you can imagine they are not quite what you expect, but interesting nevertheless.

I was in Best Buy over the weekend just browsing because there is nothing much interesting right now. I overheard this guy talking about Augmented Reality. Since I have been writing about this forever I had to stop and eavesdrop. It sounded to me like he was providing demos, so when he was done with the gentleman he was talking to I butted in to ask what he was demo'ing.

He said he had some audio Augmented Reality glasses. Which made me confused. Do you want to try them he asked handing them my way. To which I responded like they were molten lava. It's cold and flu season and I am especially germaphobic about all of these products you put on your eyes. One year of 3D at CES and you learn these types of devices are cold transmitters. Tons of people touch them and then you put them on your eyes.

He's like - oh.... these are my personal glasses. So I tried them on and was surprised to hear music. Which was cool, but I was expecting a visual component. Which they did not have.

Nevertheless.... I did find them somewhat interesting for certain markets. Like construction. The audio was quite good and unless you knew they were transmitting sound - you couldn't hear it at all if you didn't have them on.

You can apparently get prescription lenses put in, but they are just not attractive enough for most people to use them in everyday life that way. But there are some people who just don't like the ear buds, and it's a pretty clever way to solve that honestly.
