SF Is Getting the Activated Charcoal Food Festival No One Asked For.
"In a victory for style over substance, SoMa will be home to what apppears to be the world’s first food festival dedicated to activated charcoal, the charred carbon substance often used to darken foods and make them more palatable to Instagram photographers.
Taking a cue from circa 2011, it’s named 50 Shades of Charcoal and will go down at the SoMa Street Food Park with a dozen food trucks and pop-up stands (maybe more) on Sunday July 22 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m."
How is that a festival?

50 shades of beige.
You might as well settle in, because the next couple of months you are going to get a lot of this. I thought the trees would generally all cave at the same rate. Now things are getting to the level where some of them clearly are not coming back. Most of these are just dropping leaves - but week over week the weak ones are noticeably going belly up. It's going to be a spectacular year to be a tree trimmer.
This one I'm pretty sure is not coming back. When the pine trees get that orange I don't think it can recover. But I'm usually chopping trees out. So I'm no tree expert. All I know is a golf course that had one this color just chopped it down yesterday. I kinda thought they would wait to see if there were any sings of life come the rainy season.

More 50 shades of beige.
There is a small possibility we might get some rain tonight, so I had to post my tree shots. You have never seen a group of people so tired of a season as we are. I can't remember the last time it rained. Everything is covered in a layer of dirt. I would die to be able to wash the windows at my house. The whole thing just grates on you. I've lost all sense of what a normal tree looks like. The Willows have all almost turned brown now. Sometimes you can find them in this weird olive/brown.. Normally the hills are a dead grass color, but most of that has blown away and they are the color of dirt. Which is a pretty unremarkable color here.
I got these because I think the wind will probably strip most of the leaves. This is already about half the leaves this kind of tree would have.
People just giving up.
This is a cedar grove. They are on well water and even one of them is still trying to go belly up.
The next two pictures are of the creek bed. There hasn't been any water there in months. It will be interesting to see what happens when the real rain comes.
They shut off flow to all the creeks from the dam, so I was surprised to find water anywhere. It's pretty choked out though. I regretted finding it because of the mosquito's.

Trees aren't suppose to be that color.
I had a new set of 50 shades of beige, but we got our first rain yesterday. Just enough to wash the dust from everything. The parade of sad trees continues though. I've been watching this one for about a week. I think the rain actually made it more depressed looking. The Cypress are really having a tough time now and this one probably will have to be cut down.

In those brief moments the sun pops out - California becomes achingly beautiful. I haven't seen California this pretty in a loooooong time. Especially after the last four years of 50 shades of beige.

Fall is a little late.
I think we are running a month late. Just in the past week the Bay Area got really pretty. The only thing that sucks is for some reason the air quality is super bad, so it's hard to get good shots. You pretty much can't see any of the mountains anywhere. It's weird. Like we had a huge fire somewhere. But it's better than the 50 shades of beige we've had for almost a year.
In a couple of days it's suppose to get super cold for us. I'm hoping the air will lift before the cold takes everything.
