Oh FFS - yes.

Is "Temporary Inflation" A Real Thing?.

When it's printed out of thin air.  I mean, really - why do any of us need to work anymore?

Whenever I see a story like this I immediately think - oh..... you haven't bought anything lately. Because you can't believe the mundane shit you have to wait for these days. If you don't walk out of the store with it in your grubby little  hands,  you are gonna get "the talk".

You can see it in their faces immediately. And they must be getting "the shit beat out of them". I've been making their lives easier by saying I know it's going to take forever. I've been going out of my way to be patient because I know everyone is just trying to get by the best they can. But even I am like - what the ehll., And I wouldn't even consider myself a patient person. But it doesn't help anyone to get a stick up your butt.

Either the vaccines work and we open wide up and relatively quickly we hit an air pocket., or the variants win and ....... I don't know.

"... oh ... you haven't bought anything lately."

Every louche Leftist wants to have a Swiss standard of living at sub-American income.

What I suggest to them is that after the borders open, they come to Switzerland for a month and try to live on their income without drawing down their credit cards.

    Won't happen. :-)

Did I mention that the average Swiss income is something like 95k USD?

The point is that you don't have to have MONEY PRINTER GOES BRRRRRRRRRR to have high prices for things.

    But it definitely helps!

"OMG it just cost me 15 dollars to buy breakfast near Geneva airport!"

    Welcome to Switzerland! :-)

But ignore all that, because The Rona is everything in the news here ... just ask official propagandist Radio Télévision Suisse.

Didn't the US do how ventilators didn't really work and were some kind of benefits transfer to the manufacturers?

Switzerland hasn't caught up on the grift yet.

OMG ... "La Suisse enregistre 1222 nouveaux cas de coronavirus en 24 heures".

    Big whoop.

    "Either the vaccines work ..."

They mostly don't, at least not against a much more aggressive form, considerably more aggressive than what's coming out of the UK and South Africa.

What they can do is that they can sensitize you to a spike protein that's similar to the real thing, but isn't similar enough.

If you're not familiar with it, look up B cell and T cell memory and see how that works.

Johns Hopkins says they've created a cDNA variant of The Rona from all of the PCR samples and that it's just as infective, but given known issues with the PCR technique, I wouldn't trust that either as a basis for a vaccine.

But everything's getting fucked up somehow when it comes to the economy.

Really, they've overdone all of this here, and I'm not just saying that as someone who's more likely to be killed by a falling section of a space station than this stuff.

Also, I really hate to tell the Swiss this ... but have you ever tried Neuhaus and some of the really top-notch Belgian chocolates?

Swiss chocolate has some serious competition.

  2. Just out of curiosity, what do lumber/plywood prices look like there? My work has more than doubled the price of OSB and the various plywoods. We have it in stock, you're just going to pay through the nose for it. I feel bad for anyone who was planning on building this year.

  3. Oh yeah. It's bad. Today's price for a 2x4 is 8.67. Plywood is 41 to 67 bucks depending on grade.

I heard most of the problem is the chemicals they use to treat the wood. I don't know if the plants are closed or what.

    This will definitely smother demand.

  4. I expect its a mixed bag of can't get chemicals, and forced slowdowns, and general supply chain. Purina (you know, the big maker of like half the pet food brands?) is apparently having issues getting ingredients for bunches of their cat and dog foods. And while I've not checked on the others I'm sure they are too.

  5. Oh my! This is the first I've heard of this. But it doesn't surprise me at all.

  6. the pet food shelves here, at multiple stores, are half empty, its a bit scary

  7. I haven't seen an official press release from Purina or the like, but according to comments by whoever runs their Fancy Feast FB page its an ingredient shortage.

  8. Yeah..... it wouldn't be in their best interest to put out a statement. That would only cause panic. At least you can feed dogs a burger/rice mix if things get super crazy. In the early days I was pretty freaked about bunny kibble. It's not a high volume pet. I thought those days were pretty much resolved. Even toilet paper is back!

I don't get the same kind of food, but I think I should go back to early pandemic level bunny stash. Thanks for the heads up.
