LIVE PERFORMANCES FROM THE WUHAN-CLAN COMING SOON TO YOUR AREA!

"... and the traveler has only made contact with family members since her arrival."

Yes, plus everyone else she was near at SFO, plus everyone within at least a twenty seat radius of her on the plane, because duh.

Predictions for 2020-2021: flying less, driving more, needing full medical clearances to board cruise ships, getting swabbed at airports, ticket prices going up to cover le cordon sanitaire, etc.

Perhaps I need something comfortable yet more intimidating on the road instead of a nimble island racer.

Maybe I could get a monster pick-up truck SUV conversion like one of the ones you can find in Alberta. :-)

It'd run on shitty California gas unlike my remaining vehicle which demands 93 octane premium with every fill-up, which would be an improvement, and it might actually be about the same on fuel economy.

So right now I'm wondering just how scared the vendors at Huaqiangbei happen to be, and I'm not talking just about the "novel" thing ...

I'd be very surprised if Huaqiangbei's open for much of anything right now except for fulfilling already booked orders.

Hong Kong's having another round of protests because they think (rightly) that the PRC's dragging them down with the rest of China. (This wouldn't be the first time that Hong Kong bore the brunt of an infection from China, and back then SARS actually came from Shenzhen and the area around it.)

It has to be clear by now that nobody's going to Shenzhen with empty suitcases now to pick up a bunch of components for a new product prototype build, once again because duh.

If they can't change their way of selling to something online that doesn't depend entirely on the web of connections around Huaqiangbei, they're going to get stomped on by the lack of visitors and traffic through Shenzhen.

So maybe the question now isn't about who could build a new Huaqiangbei, but instead how you can make Huaqiangbei obsolete by replacing it with networks of online vendors.

When you're buying reels of SMT components, do you really need to be also worrying about what the vendor's hands touched during lunch, or are you OK with letting your stuff sit in some boxes in a warehouse for a couple of weeks to let the most virulent stuff have a chance to die?

It's also probably a good time to get any of that Made In China stuff you depend on being cheap on Amazon as well.

    Oh, and ...

IF YOU CAN READ THIS BUMPER STICKER
THAT FINE MIST COMING OUT OF MY TAIL PIPE
HAS SARS AND COXSACKIEVIRUS IN IT
SO GET YOUR LEAD FOOT OUT OF MY ASS

    One last thing ...

What did MCAS Miramar do to the JCS to deserve being turned into one of the DoD's chosen quarantine sites for this mess?

TOPGUN's in Nevada now, but you'd think they'd get a better job than this.

*finds all of the loose CHARMS from a bunch of old MREs and sends them to the JCS* :-)

  2. It's not a surprise this area has the most cases. Try finding an American restaurant in say...... Santa Clara. Now I love all the Asian foods. But.... every once in a while you want Itialian. Like I say.. I like their diversity of food. So I'm not complaining too hard.

  3. "I like their diversity of food ..."

    OK, let's try this. :-)

    Round one.

Chicago style barbecue in London ... and it's really good.

Your turn for unexpected restaurant diversity. :-)

  4. I have to think about that for a minute. Everything here comes from somewhere else. If you get a chance to go to Aisha Curry's restaurant International Smoke - she has some really creative new flavors. They had one in Vegas.

  5. Also, American food mostly moved into "fine dining", at least for the segment of it that didn't turn itself into "bar food" ...

There are plenty of places with what amounts to American food with European roots if you don't mind paying $75 or more for a prix fixe menu.

For example: Rivoli in Berkeley, or Canlis in Seattle.

I don't particularly have patience for this sort of fussy stuff all the time, but every now and then, it can be fairly nice.

But you don't expect great barbecue in London, you just don't.
