I am now in the PG&shut off zone. I don't even have power lines in my neighborhood.

Makes the days of rolling blackouts seem tame.

    So, I'm sorry to hear you are suffering here.

    So what are hospitals, rest homes, people on dialysis going to do?

    You are very close to a lot of power generation facilities.

    Ever looked at a map of the power plants in California?

    The power lines in your neighborhood aren't what they're concerned about.

    It looks like there are some big feeder lines coming in from the north that run through some scrub-brushy areas and along a few residential areas, and that's what will probably trigger the outages.

    Ironically, those feeder lines look like they're coming out of "wind farms" and a hydro dam, and so although you shouldn't be affected, you probably will be anyway.

    GOT FUEL? GOT A REALLY BIG BUDGET?

    And yes, I sorta guessed where you are: about two decades ago I had to spend some time doing stuff in a certain town near you that's known across the country for a company with a name made up of two words that has a sorta swirly red logo, and so about two decades ago I visited as a side trip and actually stopped for lunch.

    Yeah, I can make descriptions really hard to search too. :-)

    Off and on a few things looked familiar -- it's like where you are is a bit Fredericksburg, Texas (which is pretty OK) and then very quickly becomes Fort Stockton and Van Horn. (I'll leave it to you to guess which place I think is like Van Horn, because it's not a compliment.)

    But I didn't have to buy a fucking wheel clamp for any of those towns like I did for the cesspit around Lancaster/Palmdale, so there's that. :-)

    Awwwwww. You DO care. Thanks super sweet. But I"m not suffering yet. I'm pretty used to the socialist state of California. It's not my first blackout. We went through rolling blackouts. Then when I moved into my current place we lost power for three days one summer. With the bunnay I plan my bugout plan every year. It can get over 100 degrees and bunnies do not tolerate that very well. I did have to bug out to a hotel that year. I permanently keep gallon jugs in the freezer for the fridge. (earthquake water.) I have lost a full refrigerator once. You think the expensive part is the meats and stuff - but you never realize how many condiments you have until you have to toss everything out. And I do have a generator in the garage even though I've never fired it up.

    I'm not sure what they are doing with the old people. They are cancelling surgeries. Usually hospitals have backup power. When we had the rolling blackouts I was on the hospital grid for a while.

    I honestly don't know which company you are talking about. The only one that even comes close starts with a P. I'm not saying you haven't pegged where I am, but I'm not sure which company you are talking about. Although that Fredericksburg, Texas thing makes me think you are not too far off. If you are going off what I think you are - it's pretty funny how few information points can triangulate a location.

    Still not wanting to succeed with this being super simple for searches -- sit and stew about it, maybe go over the numbers a bit and look for old receipts, that kind of thing. :-)

    This is why I don't put photos online of anywhere I've been lately, if ever, especially since The Google Hive Mind has some sort of photo uniqueness search thing that they also use to spy on people.

    Even taking your EXIF information out of a photo isn't nearly enough.

    If you have enough resources, there's a way to work back to the model of camera or phone by analyzing the distortions in the picture caused by the geometry of the lens. (Not joking.)

    I recommend getting that generator out and powering it up and making sure it runs. They tend to not like sitting for extended periods. Especially if you left ethanol gas in it. If you don't already, use the marine Stabil, or equivalent stabilizers, that neutralized the ethanol. Here I can get non-ethanol gas for not TO much more than the ethanol stuff, but I know thats not true for everyone.
