It's a call back story.

Some of you may remember a few months back when I was having weird noises under my house. Eventually we figured out that a cat had been living under there. I don't know what it's eating. We don't leave food out but everyone else has outside pets. I haven't chased him out yet because I was hoping he would keep out the mice.

Mr S. named him Santas little Helper. He's not our cat.

Anyway, a couple of weeks ago I  found half of a mouse in the yard. They took out all the yummy parts and left the head and ribs. Since I'm a big fan of letting nature take it's way, we decided to leave it there overnight and see what happened. And wouldn't you know it? The very next morning it was gone. A perfect circle of life!

Then a couple of days ago I had the sprinklers on and saw this blob of fur. I run into the house and tell Mr S. - What kind of Mutual of Omaha crap is happening in our yard!? The first thing he wants to know is how it died. Was it like the last one? So I run out with a stick and flip it over.

I report back to Mr S. - I don't know. I think they slit his throat. He looks at me rather confused and says - I wonder what is killing them and not eating them. He says - Maybe it's Misis. ISIS with an M. Say it! It isn't as funny until you say the words. M-ISIS.

Again we left it there overnight, and nature did not resolve itself. Maybe he got too waterlogged or we have rabies or something. But wha the hell.

It must be Santas little Helper right? Cats are the only things that kill stuff and don't eat it? These are more like rats though, so it's a pretty big play toy.

It could also be hawks ...

My new place has a bit of a bug problem because it's actually a new place: they finished construction shortly before I moved in, and so the bugs have been feasting on all sorts of crap from the job site.

Spraying hasn't kept the bug population under control, so who moved in?

A bunch of hawks, mostly some common nighthawks, but a few others.

Unfortunately they occasionally get a sprayed moth and crap out their guts on my patio, so I have to get out there eventually to pressure wash that crap off.

Until then, I'm letting the hawks take care of another problem: one particularly irritating neighbor's asshole dog. The hawks will swoop down on the dog if it gets anywhere near my patio, but the hawks won't do anything to me.

Also, I used to have a cat long ago that looked a lot like your stray ...

She used to play with the nearby wild rabbits without killing them, so she wasn't a Typical Psycho Cat. :-)

  3. Much of the weasel family appears to kill for fun (or possibly over hyped prey drive). They have a rep for getting into chicken coops and killing all the birds and only eating parts of one.

But yah, its very likely the cat.

  4. I think I might pay to have it be hawks or weasels. Same reason as Capitol of Texas Refugee. Wholy crap you have a long nym. I know - deal with it.

I'm hoping the neighbors have finally gotten the idea that the quickest way to get me out of their lives is to stop letting their dog wake me up at 8 in the morning on a Saturday and/or Sunday. They have been pretty slow learners though. Now if nature got involved....nothing to do with me. I don't know why we don't have a coyote problem yet, but I wish we did.

I'm not saying it's right. But I understand.

I mean, in Florida they let their giant 8 feet lizards go loose and terrorize neighborhoods!

  5. I guess Santas Little helper gets to stay. If there is one jihad I'm for it's the MISIS jihad. Even if I have to clean up after it. When those mice start causing car damage..... oh.. it's on.

"I know - deal with it."

    AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA *high-pitched Stimpy laugh* :-)

As a reward for your perseverance (as well as dealing with it), I offer this not-so-humble token of Austin culture (which also fled like refugees, but they moved to Philly) ...

The Dead Milkmen -- "Big Lizard In My Backyard"

The lyrics are totally worth it. :-)

Also, since this appears to be New Car Week, there's this as well:

The Dead Milkmen -- "Bitchin' Camaro"

One day I want to try the trick involving the Bahamas, but in order to do it, I think I'm going to need a lot of gas and a really big ship to drive around.

BUT I HAVE A DREAM TOO (except it's some enviro-whacko's nightmare), DEAL WITH IT :-)

Also also wik ... enjoy this as well!

The Dead Milkmen -- "Peter Bazooka"

"I swear some people JUST DON'T WANT TO GET INVOLVED!" :-)
