    Black and yellow California plates were issued in the 1960s ...

    So maybe a California parent decided he or she would transfer the vehicle and the plate to a child's new car, figuring that one day maybe that car might actually be a '68 Dodge again.

    It probably was on a '68 Dodge when the plate was issued, and of course back then that wouldn't have been a big deal.

    Oh, wild, I didn't actually notice you got a 1960s style plate ...

    You can't get old plate styles in Florida -- the plates cycle through every six years now.

    But at least we don't have to have front plates. :-)

  6. They are wildly popular. Probably a quarter of the plates are black. Maybe a quarter is a little high, but tons of cars here now have the old timey plates. You are going to have to carbon date those things now to know if they are old or new.
