What do you guys think of this air taxi?



I pray once and for all this will make men stop lusting after jetpacks and flying cars. Because this is better! I guess one of the McLaren designers is working on this.

    Without some sort of guided automatic IFR, these things straying into airports operating under IFR will be even worse than drones that try to fly close to terminal control areas.

    The first company that can develop decentralized air traffic control for these aircraft that actually works will clean up the skies and in the market. The increasing affordability of stuff like this will put pressure on finding a way to auto-regulate anything flying below 5000 feet, including drones.

    Trying to add another layer of traffic control on top of already over-burdened centralized ATCs would be madness -- someone's going to have to develop another solution that isn't centralized. The world's busiest airport (ATL) already lands a jumbo every 75 to 90 seconds, so in a sense what they're already doing there isn't really scalable.

    So as cool as this looks, and it admittedly does look cool, I think the big future investment opportunity will be whatever's going to try to fix what's currently not going to scale with air traffic control, especially if that's going to turn into some kind of standard hardware that can be installed everywhere.

    I can already imagine some forward-thinking taxi company wanting to operate a few of these little aircraft near FLL so they can pop people over to Port Everglades for their cruises as a premium service, and I also can already imagine the ATC chief's initial reaction to that idea as something very negative, curse word-laden, angry, and loud ...

    So there will be an "initial period of adjustment" to deal with. :-)
