All of a sudden I'm rooting for the crypto market - just until this goes through.

Berkeley wants to use cryptocurrency to help house its homeless.

I can't quote this article because I've already used up my free access, but let me summarize it for you. With a little color added from the news segment they did on it last night. You ready?

They claim they are going to do an ICO that somehow is going to be totally stable unlike bitcoin. Somehow it will not fluctuate. You don't make any money off of these coins, (which I guess is why they don't fluctuate) but they are backed by government bonds. And mostly it's going to go to the homeless. No really. They propose giving the homeless these tokens or coins or whatever to spend at stores in their city. And I'm not sure what the city gets out of this. But I want them to do it so badly!

City of Berkeley, California: This is fine. We're okay with the events that are unfolding currently.

BTW, I'm just going to show my lack of support for a silly name registry by signing each comment with my name in some of the languages I know sorta half-way for a while. TILL SVERIGE! :-)

Also BTW Google Captcha, I know the difference between a sign written in Spanish for a shop and a sign for a medical charity, so stop making me do more captchas because other people aren't literate in Spanish. And that was not a car, that was a Hino delivery truck, but thanks for letting me post this comment now! :-)

OH BUT I CAN BECAUSE I'M ALWAYS ON TOR :-)

And now let's dial around for another country ... ah, yes, the United Kingdom has a really nice fair use law, let's use that. *snicker*

NOW LET'S HAVE THOSE NO MO MONEY NO MO MONEY NO MO MONEY QUOTES

"Berkeley leaders are drafting a proposal that could make it the first U.S. city to launch an initial coin offering, or ICO — a digital token offering that is a popular fundraising tool for some Silicon Valley tech startups. The city could use that money for various projects, but affordable housing and services for the city’s homeless would be top priorities."

"... the general idea is that investors would use blockchain — the digital ledger that facilitates currencies such as Bitcoin — to buy digital tokens backed by municipal bonds. The tokens could be used as vouchers in local stores, Bartlett said."

"The [homeless] problem is intensifying as Berkeley’s funding is being threatened. The Republican tax overhaul, which lowered corporate tax rates late last year, also lowered the value of the tax credits cities use to fund affordable housing projects."

  3. The thing is .... here at the snarkolepsy blog - you can protest all you want. We just don't care. And really - you are going to run out of languages before we get bored. (smile)

I could always just go to another device, but I'm just not even motivated enough to do that. I thought the free media was suppose to be free. But we love to play their game. If you just wait a few hours someone else with access will talk about it then I can snarf their comments. Or sometimes even readers will post it. So.... thanks!

    I PROTEST NON-SERIOUSLY AT MY NON-SERIOUS PROTEST BEING TAKEN NON-SERIOUSLY :-)

The thing with the Tor Browser bundle is that it's super-easy: just hit the "new identity" button, clear your cookies, and try again. You can even select the country of the "exit node" you're using.

So it works great with some sites that don't block Tor entirely. It doesn't work all that well with Fox News since they block everything coming out of Tor, but I simply look for another source if I'm stuck with a Fox News link.

Mostly I hate having my IP address being profiled for advertising purposes, and so I use Tor as much as possible to limit that. Since the Blogger Monster feeds into the Google Advertising Monster, I pretty much use it everywhere I leave "snarkoleptic" comments. :-)

Still, my "local" advertising includes: cheap vacations in Israel, new apartments starting at 600k AED in Dubai (which I wouldn't even be able to look at if I go to Israel), various sports cars (some of which may catch fire), cruise ships, expensive cooking courses ... it's all just a bit much.
