Who is buying this crap?

No one.. that's who!

Alright.. I've had it. Is it too much to ask to get some f-ing grapes? That aren't in a bag? I live in California for gods sake. Aren't we all about the grape? It's the middle of f-ing summer. Some cherries not in a bag would be nice too. But I'm not trying to be greedy.

As a matter of a fact.. you can't get anything with the colors green, or any shade of red that doesn't look like it's been in a hailstorm. Look at these limes.

And thanks a f-ing lot hippies for making it impossible to get any fucking corn. All summer long I've tried and tried to get corn. Most of it you open up, and its 3/4's undeveloped cornstalk.

Thankfully my ethanol powered car is right out front. Oh wait.. not so much. And who's bright idea was it to make a fuel that could be taken out with one La Nina year?

Look at these size of this corn next to my cell phone case. My cell phone is 4 inches long BTW.

I don't know why farmers are even trucking this stuff in. I see customer after customer go to buy something in the produce isle and just walk away.

I understand the middle part of the country has been screwed with rain.. but I should be able to get something from my own f-ing state. Like grapes. We've had like - 180 days of sunshine this year.

Anyone want to make bets on how soon the Farm Aid concerts pop up?

  1. What do you mean by "not in a bag"? If they are fresh and grown locally do they come in just bulk?
I bought some corn the other day, and while it was all fully grown, no taste what so ever. I would have rather had the frozen stuff.

  2. Yeah... in bulk. Usually (here) when they put stuff in bags.. it's because the grapes can't stay on the stems. Which means they are way past their prime. And not the "I'm just a picky little bitch prime". The "wow, that's disgusting" prime.

I've even recently seen tomatoes (which I know you love) almost melting in the bin.

And I'm a total store whore. I'm not committed to just one company.

Tasteless corn is just wrong. It should completely taste like summer.

  3. We even have leaf lettuce in a bag now. When the misters come on, the water gets trapped in the bag and half the outside leaves are slimy. I suggested to the store manager that although they may have to buy the lettuce that way, lose the bag when they put it out.

And I can't find larger red potatoes by the each. You have to buy at least a 5 lb bag.

And don't even get me started on the "fresh" corn and tomatoes around here. (sigh) Thanks for letting me vent.

  4. Warrior Knitter - You just totally gave me shivers! Slimy lettuce.. eww.. more shivers.

Good to see you around though! I was just reading your site a few days ago and figured you were out sailing most days.

  5. Most of our veggies here are California imports - all bagged, all with that same "ripened in the bag" taste. We don't have a long enough growing season for much in the way of fruit (too cold, too wet).

Our only victory is corn - oh baby we have excellent corn. Huge, flavourful, tender jubilee cobs. I live on the stuff from summer to fall. It's some of the best food on earth.
