Whenever we go to Monterey we have to go through Hollister which is where my favorite winery is. Yeah..... Hollister makes some really good wine. My city is filled with wineries, but Hollister is better.
So imagine my surprise when I saw this sign. I have no dog in this fight other than I think erasing history is wrong. Rock on Hollister.
Everything I needed to learn about this, I learned from Robert E Lee: he didn't join the Confederate cause because he agreed with it, but because he wanted to defend his home from Union attacks, and he told Lincoln as much. When fortunes changed against Lee, it was Lincoln who told his Union general, who he had to settle for because he couldn't get Lee, to lay off Lee when it was clear to Lee that he was beaten.
ReplyDeleteThese people are still celebrating the fact that there were people who would defend their homelands right or wrong, and that even enemies in war could respect each other for making principled choices ...
