This is how desperate we have become.

I think the stagnation is pretty palpable right now because PokemanGo is all of a sudden the saviour of the economy. Apparently.

Take these headlines. It's sad really. In the old days a hit game would be awesome. But it would only be a hit game. Not all of this other crap. It says a lot about the economy really.

How 'Pokemon Go' could help you sell your house.

'Pokemon Go' has the power to transform retail, analyst says.

  1. Which will be the biggest fad ten years out, hover boards, virtual reality or Pokémon go? DF

  2. LOL. That's a fun question. I think probably hover boards, only because they started burning peoples houses down. VR, IMO can't fit into the fad category because they've already been working on it for like 20 years. It's one of those longest fads ever that never really took off kinda thing. Even Mr S. and I met at a company doing VR back in the day. It used to take a whole room full of hardware.

VR's problem is a matter of hardware limitations. I think it's something that will keep popping up over and over again until the hardware catches up with the software. Then PokemanGo, people just fall in love with games. I've been playing DOOM2016 for like a month now because I loved it so much in the day. I don't know if it will endure as long as DOOM. But people just love games in a funny way.

    What do you think?

  3. I think you're right about the VR. It may have already out survived fad status, plus it has the whole adult content thing to drive it, so I think it's disqualified. The hover boards seem a bit timeless in the same way that skateboards and snowboards still attract 12 year old juveniles, so I see the fire bugs getting worked out over a decade. I guess that leaves me with Pokémon by default. Gamers can be fickle after all and you can bet that 1000 companies are about to copy them. DF
